Flowers Near You for Gifts

Flowers are wonderfully colourful objects that Mother Nature has provided for us all to enjoy.  Especially at Christmas what better than a lovely potted plant for your mother? Flowers are the blossoms of plants and shrubs and the colours they are and the scents they give out serve a greater purpose than just for our enjoyment! These colours and aromas attract the insects and birds that pollinate them thus allowing them to spread and flourish. You can enjoy the wonder of these insects so busy all the time just look at them dragonflies, are beautiful and so are the little ladybirds, but the bees and the wasps do equally as good a job left to their own devices they won't harm us.

The variety of flowers is immense and there are hundreds of thousandsaround the world. Some have interesting histories and meanings so if you are planning on giving them as a present a little research can go a long way! For that extra special present, its worth going to a specialist florist rather than a gas station or supermarket. Not only is the quality usually better, they can advise on what is best and often have a wider range of blooms available. You can also ask them to arrange a bunch especially for you - perfect for that personal touch! Don’t forget the right message!

A vase of cut flowers brightens up any room and can be used for as a gift for almost any occasion: birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and sadly but they help bring some cheer to funerals, as a thank you, a romantic gift for a loved one, as a sympathy thought or just to cheer someone up!

In order to prolong your cut flowers it is best to keep them in clean water and use the food solution provided by your florist. Always cut a couple of inches off the stem before putting them in water and keep them in a moderate temperature and away from direct sunlight.

Sometimes Pot Plants make a longer lasting gift for that special occasion, from something simple like African Violets to the more exotic but colourful and aromatic Orange Plants!  Another great favourite is dried flowers, they look good although less colourful than fresh but they have a more ethereal quality which brings its own pleasure. There greatest benefit is they need little care aside of the occasional dusting!

Silk flowers are similarly qualified, but they do have some great flowers and so realistic no real care except to keep them out of strong sunlight and well dusted. Plastic flowers look awful we don't like them!!

If you haven't visited the tulip fields in Holland you have missed a treat, the sheer size of them and the massive array of colourful flowers is never to be forgotten. Commercial cultivation of flowers is increasing and has become big business, through this development we have gained the benefits of an enormous range of plants and flowers throughout the year to enjoy.

Whether in the home, garden or in the wild, flowers will always brighten up our lives! Enjoy!
